10/12/19 – PreWork!
Well, another Puttython is nearly upon us in the PuttyTribe. And this October 2019, I’ll be cleaning up something yet again.
This time it’s my room.
So, I’m a terrible Keeper of Rooms. Shit gets pretty bad up in here, sort of like a set of apocalyptic tornados that tears through the space. It has been a long joke between my husband and I that I say that the elves come out at night and add things to my floor. He’s been a long suffering elfologist, trying to catch these buggers in action.
Lately, it’s gotten much worse, this I’m-pretty-sure-this-is-a-hellmouth. Maybe just feeling overwhelmed or underwhelmed in my life right now. Yeah… So, time to tackle this bitch. Here’s a “starting video”…
Puttython starts 10/19 at 10am and goes for 24 hours. I often try to stay up. We’ll see…
October 19, 2019 – 10am!
First kick-off huddle or the “this is what I’m going to attempt to do for 24 hours” starter huddle. A decent amount of people present. We share our projects and mine remains the same, that I will work on the crazy Hellmouth Gate called my room. During the call, we thought it might be fun to do Time-Lapse videos of our work. So after we got of the call, I tested it out.
Here’s a sample of me tackling the trash piles first.
Makes a pretty big difference just with the trash gone. So, now that’s done, will focus on an easy corner, which I think shall be the “Pink Unicorn” corner.
The Pink Unicorn Corner – Before
The Pink Unicorn Corner – Time-Lapse!
The Pink Unicorn Corner – After
Whew. I think I can watch the Time-Lapse non-stop. I think I feel a bit betrayed by the fact that we can’t move that fast. If I had superhuman powers of speed, I’d use them to clean up faster… And the dust! Ugh, this sucks, nasty, lungs feel like they’re back in the fires again. Okay, only briefly.
Next up, I think will be the Entertainment Corner.
Here’s the Before Photo:
Whew, this one ended up being a long slog. I didn’t record it because it was just basically a lot (A LOT) of dusting of the shelves and took me a really long time, especially getting into the nooks and crannies of the electronics. And, one thing to note about us of Scandanavian descent. We don’t do shit half way. It’s 100% or you go home. So, I had to clean EVERYTHING. But given that I haven’t probably dusted in two years, well, it had it coming.
A few things of note to do later…
- Secure the bookshelves to each other and to the wall.
- Ask my man if we can put the folding chairs in the upstairs closet into the “Deep Storage.
- Put up the AC unit where the chairs were in the closet for wintering.
- Figure out what to do with the XBox 360.
But after all that, here’s the Entertainment Corner, After!
Just finished this section right before the 6pm Check-In Huddle.
So, I got two corners done by the 6pm Huddle. It was about 6 hours as Erika and I were chatting for a bit after the 10am kick-off but then I finally knuckled down and got into it. I was having a hard time feeling like I had done anything. Picking stuff up is all well and good but the dusting takes the most time. Everyone suggested to take a break but the hot tub was at 97 by the time my man was done with it, so I had to wait. I did launch into the next set while I was waiting for the tub to warm back up to at least to 100. I figure I’ll just keep going along corners and walls in sections.
Everyone seems to be trundling along with their projects!
The next area are the small bookshelves along the wall. Small bookshelf One and Floor – Before:
Yes, you see a lot of toilet paper tubes near “shelf 2”. I keep those for my little hamster Ushki which he both likes to use in his cage and with which I use to lift him out of his cage. He can be a bit bitey and you can’t grab him directly from his cage, so you present him the tube and he crawls right in and you pull tube and hamster out.
Small Bookshelf Two – Before:
Here’s the Time-Lapse of the first shelf and a part of the floor.
Here’s the first Small Shelf and the Floor part – After:
Here’s the second Small Shelf – After:
I did move major piles around to other parts of the room, and I can take care of those later. But for the sake of getting some areas cleaned up, better just shift around. Still need to organize the top part of the Small Shelf One but trying to decide where I want to store the Occulus and the Chainmail.
Finally, around 11pm or so, the hot tub was up to 100 (although 102 when I got down there) and I took a break and soaked for a bit. Back’s hurting. Stared at the stars for while. Then I went back up and stare at my desk, the next in “line”.
Seems like I’m just moving the dust around from one thing to another as I notice a thin layer coating my computer keyboard and screen. Yuck. I think I have a thin layer coating the insides of me as well.
Here’s the Desk – Before:
This is my next section but I think I’m too tired. I usually make it much further than this during a Puttython, but I didn’t sleep much at all last night and that’s counting against me as I try to push myself more. The soak was good but I think it made me more sleepy than restored. I’ll see if I can get up in the morning to work some stuff. Especially since I feel like the actual major parts I needed to do, really didn’t get done.
Calling it. 12:35am.
10/20/19 – 9:30am
I actually woke up at 7:30am and was intending to get out of bed to start on the desk but I lay there feeling like shards of glass were in my joints and muscles and my nose was running. Well, my nose is always running, so that wasn’t actually new. But I was feeling run down and my chronic pain crap was flaring. So, I lay in bed and read. I’ve been running through Anne McCaffrey’s Dragonriders of Pern series again. Even reading ones I hadn’t so long ago. Until finally I drag myself out of bed around 9:30 to make this video in prep for the Show ‘n Tell Huddle.
Trying to remind myself that it took a long time to get here, it’s not going to take 24 hours to get out, especially hurting and feeling like my lungs are back in the Tubbs fire again. This is a fabulous start, I know this intellectually.
Elves have been schooled, motherfuckers!
Okay, if you scroll up a bit, you’ll find the “before” video of the desk. And here’s a “Before” pic of it:
The Time-Lapse of the clean up. I still could watch these forever.
And the official “After” photo of the Desk:
Now, just three more major areas of the room to do, although one is more of an organization (/scanning) project than clean up.
- The scanning station (the long table where the camera for the Desk Time-Lapse is sitting). (cleaning)
- The area in front of the big bookshelf next to the Pink Unicorn corner, and the bookshelf itself. (cleaning)
- The big bookshelf right next to my desk and behind the scanning station. (organize/scan) (although could use a dusting)
Not sure if I’ll do Time-Lapse of the rest, but we’ll see. They are very fun to watch but the files are rather large! But definitely photos!
